Rio Grande Fishing Report 4/20/20

A week of cooler weather and a release of 26.7 CFS out of the Rio Grande Reservoir has kept flows relatively consistent. Wagon Wheel Gap sits at 316 CFS. Water clarity is great, with just a little bit of color.

As far as fishing goes nymphing and streamer fishing still remain the most productive. A few curious fish in shallower riffle runs will investigate attractor patterns on top this type of year. Which can be a fun change of pace to watching an indicator or stripping a streamer.

Today we fished both streamers and nymphs and did very well on both. For streamers we fished sizes 6-8 in all kinds of colors with the Jon’s Lion Bugger being our favorite today. For nymph’s larger stonefly imitations were the go-to. Our favorite patterns for a stonefly nymph are the 20-Incher and Pat’s Rubber Legs.

After another long winter the fish are looking very healthy and they already have great weight to them. We can’t wait for everyone to get here.
